Great Game Serengeti maths, step by step
Four tiers, five buy prices, one ceiling, and what each of them costs at your stake.
Great Game Serengeti is a Hacksaw Gaming slot on five reels, three rows and nine paylines, and its RTP, the return to player, is not a single number. It comes as a set of four, because the provider ships the game in four configurations and the casino picks one of them. Everything below is the full rail: the tiers, the separate returns attached to the five feature buys, the volatility step, the hit rate and the bet ladder that prices all of it.
Four tiers, and how to tell which one you are playing#
The four published configurations share a grid, a paytable, a feature set and a 5,000x ceiling. What differs is the long-run return, and the difference between the top and the bottom of the list is large enough to be worth thirty seconds of checking.
| Tier | Gap to the default | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| 96.29% | — | The default configuration, the one the provider’s own demo build runs and the figure settled over 10,000,000,000 simulated rounds. This is the version to look for. |
| 94.21% | 2.08 points | Identical reels, a slightly thinner long-run return. One Swedish lobby page prints this one. |
| 92.30% | 3.99 points | Same hunt, same coins, same ceiling; the return is almost four points leaner. |
| 86.24% | 10.05 points | The lowest published configuration, and the one worth recognising on sight. |
The tier is not a secret and you do not have to guess. Open the game info panel at the casino, where the return is printed, and compare it with the list above. Licensed lobbies frequently publish it on the game page itself before you even launch, and an operator’s demo path sometimes carries the tier number inside the game code in the link. The middle column is why that reading is worth doing: those gaps apply to every stake you put through the game, and nothing at the reels earns them back.

The number that is not the base game#
You will meet 96.35% on review sites presented as the RTP of Great Game Serengeti. It is a real published figure, and it belongs to BONUSHUNT FeatureSpins™, the cheapest entry on the buy menu, not to the base game. All five entries carry their own returns, and here they are together: BONUSHUNT FeatureSpins™ at 96.35%, HUNTING SEASON FeatureSpins™ at 96.23%, BIG FIVE FeatureSpins™ at 96.26%, KHAKI QUEST at 96.1% and ROARING REIGN at 96.31%.
Two things follow. The first is that the spread across the buy menu is narrow: a quarter of a percentage point from top to bottom, 96.35% down to 96.1%, and only four hundredths between the cheapest entry and the dearest, 96.35% against 96.31%. The choice between entries is about what each one does rather than about squeezing an edge. The second is that a purchase is measured against its own return, not against the base game’s, which means comparing 96.35% with 96.29% tells you almost nothing useful. What each entry actually delivers is set out on the features page , with the trigger conditions and the round lengths.
Volatility and hit rate: how the game actually feels#
Volatility sits at 3 of 5 on the provider’s own scale, a middle step, and the number itself is not in dispute anywhere. The base game plays a level hotter the moment BONUSHUNT FeatureSpins™ is switched on, and that is the one mode the game labels High while the other four buys carry Medium.
The texture comes from the hit rate: a win on about 36.78% of spins, a little over one spin in three. What a returning spin is worth is set by the row that produced it, and those rows run from 0.1x the bet for three royals to 25x for five lions, with the whole four-of-a-kind column, 0.4x to 5x, sitting between them. That spread is why the bet ladder is the most important control on the screen. A session at 0.10 a spin gives you twenty times the spins of a session at the 2.00 default for the same money, and the size of the ceiling does not change at all.

If you want that translated into session planning rather than into arithmetic, the strategy page works through stake size, buy timing and when leaving a FeatureSpins™ mode switched on stops making sense.
The bet ladder and what each step buys#
Every price in this game is a multiple of your own stake, which makes the whole economy portable: pick a rung and every figure below scales with it. Here is the ceiling and all five entries at the bottom, the middle and the top of the range.
| Your bet | Ceiling at 5,000x | BONUSHUNT 2x | HUNTING SEASON 50x | KHAKI QUEST 60x | BIG FIVE 100x | ROARING REIGN 200x |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.10 | 500.00 | 0.20 | 5.00 | 6.00 | 10.00 | 20.00 |
| 2.00 | 10,000.00 | 4.00 | 100.00 | 120.00 | 200.00 | 400.00 |
| 200.00 | 1,000,000.00 | 400.00 | 10,000.00 | 12,000.00 | 20,000.00 | 40,000.00 |
A few readings worth carrying away. At the bottom rung the entire buy menu is affordable: the most expensive round in the game costs 20.00, which is the same as 200 base spins at that stake. At the default 2.00 the menu spans 4.00 to 400.00, a hundredfold range, and that spread is the real decision on this page. At the top rung the purchase price is the reason the provider notes that a feature buy may go above the 200.00 per-spin cap; the cap applies to a spin, and a purchase is priced in spins.
The ratios inside that table are worth reading too, because they hold at every stake. ROARING REIGN costs a hundred times BONUSHUNT, 400.00 against 4.00 on the default bet. BIG FIVE at 100x is exactly half of it. KHAKI QUEST at 60x sits at 1.2 times the 50x of HUNTING SEASON, the two closest prices on the menu, and the eight-spin round it buys is the shortest one on offer. And the 5,000x ceiling is 25 times the dearest purchase: at the 2.00 stake, 10,000.00 against the 400.00 you would have paid to reach the round. Those relationships are fixed by the multipliers, so once you have read them here you never have to recompute them at a different table.

What the paytable is worth on the same three rungs#
The line game scales the same way, and the three-of-a-kind column is the one you meet first. Priced at the three rungs:
| Line | 3 of a kind | At 0.10 | At 2.00 | At 200.00 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lion | 2x | 0.20 | 4.00 | 400.00 |
| Rhino | 1.5x | 0.15 | 3.00 | 300.00 |
| Zebra | 1x | 0.10 | 2.00 | 200.00 |
| Giraffe, ostrich | 0.4x | 0.04 | 0.80 | 80.00 |
| J, Q, K, A | 0.1x | 0.01 | 0.20 | 20.00 |
A three-royal line at the minimum stake returns a tenth of the spin that produced it; a three-lion line on the same stake returns twice the spin, twenty times as much as the royals for the same three positions. That spread is the honest texture of a middle-volatility game: the line rows are priced small and deliberately, and the size arrives in the hunt. The five- and four-symbol rows sit above this table at 1x to 25x and 0.4x to 5x respectively, so a five-lion line is 50.00 on the default stake and 5,000.00 at the cap. The Wild matches the lion at 25x for five of a kind while substituting for everything in the paytable, which is why it appears in more winning lines than its own frequency suggests, and why a Wild standing on a shot reel is the most valuable symbol on the grid.
One consequence for the return figure itself: 96.29% is the whole game added up, the nine lines and the hunts together, across 10,000,000,000 simulated rounds. It is not a description of any one part of it, and it is not a forecast of any hundred spins in either direction.
What a 5,000x round is worth#
The ceiling is 5,000x the bet on a single round, and the provider is explicit that it is available in every game mode: base game, earned free spins, and any of the bought entries alike. At 0.10 that is 500.00, at 2.00 it is 10,000.00 and at 200.00 it is 1,000,000.00.

The path to the cap is described in the rules rather than left to the imagination. Diamond coins run 100x, 150x, 250x and 500x the bet; a Trap collects the values of every Coin and every other Trap on the grid into its own total; and a Wild standing on a shot reel multiplies between one and five of those symbols by x2 up to x20. Stack those three in one hunt and the arithmetic carries you a long way up. The features page walks through the symbol set and the three bonus rounds that stage those hunts.
It is also the answer to a question people ask about the buy menu: whether an expensive entry raises the ceiling. It does not. ROARING REIGN at 200x the bet and an ordinary 0.10 spin both top out at 5,000x, because the cap is a property of the game rather than of the path you took to the round. What the price buys is the speed and the certainty of reaching a bonus, which is worth paying for on some nights and not on others.
Reading these numbers without fooling yourself#
The return was settled over 10,000,000,000 simulated rounds, which is exactly what makes it a solid figure and exactly what makes it useless as a forecast. 96.29% is a property of a very large number of spins; your next hundred will look nothing like it in either direction, and that is normal rather than surprising. The same applies to the 36.78% hit rate: it describes a long run, not the next ten spins.
What you can control is the tier you play on, the stake you choose and how long you stay. Check the tier before the first spin, pick a rung of the ladder that gives you the number of spins you want, and decide the session limit in advance.
18+. A published return describes millions of rounds, not your next hundred. Choose the limit first, and the responsible gambling page shows how. If you would rather test the maths at no cost, the free demo runs the default configuration, the slot hub carries the full spec, and the head-to-head with Tres Pinatas puts these figures next to another Hacksaw game on the same frame.
